Johann Heinrich Schakin, a mason (Maurer), and his wife Katharina Brigitte settled in the Volga German colony of Kratzke on 7 August 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 12.

The 1767 census records that Johann Heinrich Schakin came from the German village of Ulm.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
