Discussion & Documentation

Daniel Huff, a wool weaver (Wollweber), his wife Elisabeth, and daughter Barbara (age 2½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard an English frigate named Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Maria Elisabeth Guwst [sic], widow of an unnamed craftsman (Handwerker), and her daughter Maria Barbara (age 3) are recorded on the 1767 census of Moor in Household No. 49. They had arrived there on 18 June 1767.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Daniel Huff came from the German region of the Pfalz. The 1767 census records that Maria Elisabeth Guwst [sic] came from the German region of Kurpfalz.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
