Jakob Bemsel, a farmer, and his wife Kasparina arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a galliot named Elisabeth Catharina under the command of Skipper Heinrich Ludwig Gottknecht.
Jakob Pemsel, a farmer, his [new] wife Anna, and daughters [some of whom must be step-daughters] (Eva, age 17; Barbara, age 15; Ida, age 11 [Eva & Barbara are believed to have the surname Kippes]) are recorded on the 1767 census of Brabander in Household No. 6. They had settled there on 13 August 1767.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Jakob Bemsel came from the German region of Schwaben (Swabia). The 1767 census records that Jakob Pemsel came from the German village of Ulm in the region of Schwaben (Swabia).
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
