Johann Christoph Rau, a miner (Bergarbeiter), his wife Dorothea, and children (Anna Margaretha, age 16; Johann Christoph, age 5) are recorded on the 1767 census of Beauregard in Household No. 52. They had settled there on 27 August 1766.

In 1789, Johann Rau moved from Beauregard to Zürich.

The 1767 census records that Johann Christoph Rau came from the German village of Stitzenhein [?].
