Two Holzmüller families arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 14 June 1766 aboard the ship named Die Neue Fortuna (The New Fortune) under the command of Skipper Ahrens Steingraber.
(1) Johann David Holzmüller, a hosier (Strumpfwirker), and his wife Margaretha arrived in Oranienbaum along with Johann Peter Gorsch (age 6). The Oranienbaum passenger list does not record a relationship between the Holzmüller and Gorsch families. [See Gorsch Family.]
Widow Margaretha Gänzemüller [sic] (age 31) is recorded on the 1767 census of Bettinger in Household No. 35. She had arrived in Bettinger on 3 August 1767.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann David Holzmüller came from the German village of Weißenfels. The 1767 census records that Margaretha Gänzemüller came from the German village of Bernitz.
(2) Noah Holzmüller, a hosier (Strumpfwirker), and his wife Katharina arrived in Oranienbaum.
Noah Holtzmüller is recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
Noah Holzmüller (age 30), a manufacturer (Fabrikant), is recorded on the 1767 census of Warenburg in Household No. 103 along with the orphan Johann Peter Gorsch (age 8) and a note that the wife of Noah Holzmüller had died on 19 July 1767. They had arrived in Warenburg on 12 May 1767. The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Holzmüller and Gorsch families. [See Gorsch Family.]
Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Noah Holzmüller came from the German region of Hanau.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Holzmüller family among the Volga German colonies.
