Discussion & Documentation

Widow Katharina Fritz and her children (Georg, age 20; Johann [Philipp], age 18; and Kunigunda, age 13) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the ship Der Junge Heinrich under the command of Skipper Henrich Niemann.

Son Philipp settled in the Volga German colony of Keller where he is recorded on the 1767 census in Household No. 23 along with Gottfried Hahn. A note on the 1767 census records that Philipp Fritz is to be married to Margaretha Hahn, Gottfried's daughter. [This is believed to be the correct Fritz family because several other families arrived on this same ship that also settled in the colony of Keller.]

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that widow Katharina Fritz came from the German region of Darmstadt.
