Discussion & Documentation

Christoph Bischof, his wife Sophia Christina, and children (Johanna, age 9½; Henrietta, age 4; Kaspar, age 1½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 16 August 1766 aboard a snow-brig named Prinz Carl (Prince Carl) under the command of Skipper Christopher Losser.

Christoph Bischoff, his wife Sophia Christina, and daughters (Johanna, age 11½; Henrietta, age 5) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Henrietta died in route.

Christoph Bischof, a cloth weaver (Tuchweber), his wife Sophia Katharina Müller, and daughter Johanna (age 12) are recorded on the 1767 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 139. They had arrived in Katharinenstadt on 3 August 1767.

Christoph Bischof (age 41), a clothmaker (Tuchmacher), his wife Sophia Christina née Müller (age 31), and daughters (Johanna, age 19; Henrietta, age 8) are recorded on the 1776 Katharinenstadt Grundbuch [Land Register] in Household No. 131.

The 1767 census records that Christoph Bischof came from the German region of Dessau. The 1776 Katharinenstadt Land Register records that Christoph Bischoff and his wife came from the German town of Dessau and that daughter Johanna came from the German region of Anhalt.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Bischof family among the Volga German colonies.
