Johann Georg Stern [sic], a cooper (Küfer), and his wife Jakobina arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 31 May 1766 aboard a galliot named Die Vergoldete Weintraube (The Gilded Grape) under the command of Skipper Joachim Hermann Andersen.
Johann Georg Stertz, a cooper (Faßbinder), and his wife Jakobina settled in the Volga German colony of Straub on 12 May 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in household No. 27.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Georg Stern [sic] came from the German region of the Pfalz. The 1767 census records that Johann Georg Stertz came from the German village of Maikammer in the Bistum Speyer region.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Stertz family among the Volga German colonies.
