Discussion & Documentation

Christoph Schmidt, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Anna, age 17¼; Christoph, age 15¼; Margaretha, age 11; Elisabeth, age 8) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard the ship Die Jungfer Friederika under the command of Skipper Hans Christian Korsholm.

The surviving children (Anna Maria, age 17; Christoph, age 16; Elisabeth, age 9) are recorded on the 1767 census of Straub in Household No. 1 where oldest daughter Anna Maria is married to Johann Heinrich Straub.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Christoph Schmidt came from the German region of Hanau.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Schmidt family among the Volga German colonies.
