Discussion & Documentation

Karl Gottlieb Wartenbach arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 21 September 1766.

Carl Gottlob Wartenbach is recorded on a list of colonists being transported from Oranienbaum to Saratov in 1767.

Karl Gottlob Sartenbach [sic], a craftsman (Handwerker), and his wife Magdalena are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Paulskaya in Household No. 44. They had arrived there on 3 August 1767.

Gottlieb Weidenbach [sic] from Zürich and his wife are recorded on the 1798 census of Kind in Household No. Kd15.

The Oranienbaum passenger list does not record from where Karl Gottlieb Wartenbach came. The 1767 census records that Karl Gottlob Sartenbach [sic] came from the German region of Breslau.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
