Discussion & Documentation

Johann David Holzmüller, a hosier (Strumpfwirker), and his wife Margaretha arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 14 June 1766 aboard the ship named Die Neue Fortuna (The New Fortune) under the command of Skipper Ahrens Steingraber along with Johann Peter Gorsch (age 6). The Oranienbaum passenger list does not record a relationship between the Holzmüller and Gorsch families. [See Holzmüller Family.]

Noah Holzmüller (age 30), a manufacturer (Fabrikant), is recorded on the 1767 census of Warenburg in Household No. 103 along with the orphan Johann Peter Gorsch (age 8) and a note that the wife of Noah Holzmüller had died on 19 July 1767. They had arrived in Warenburg on 12 May 1767. The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Holzmüller and Gorsch families. [See Gorsch Family.]

The 1767 census does not record from where Johann Peter Gorsch came.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Gorsch family among the Volga German colonies.
