Discussion & Documentation
Widower Kaspar Gärtner, a carver (Schnitzer) whose wife had died after arrival in Katharinenstadt, and his children (Anna, age 10; Franz, age 4; Johann, age ½) are recorded on the 1767 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 169. They had settled there on 27 August 1767.
The 1767 census records that Kaspar Gärtner came from the German village of Dermbach in the region of Sachsen (Saxony).
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
