Michael Hanzel [sic], a single miller (Müller), arrived from Lübeck via Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum on 24 May 1766 aboard a pinque named Лапоминк (Lapomink - a Russian river) under the command of Lieutenant Dmitry Krykov.
Michael Hensel, a miller (Müller), and his wife Walpurga are recorded on the 1767 census of Leitsinger in Household No. 71. They had settled there on 12 May 1767.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Michael Hanzel [sic] came from the German region of Ranzig. The 1767 census records that Michael Hensel came from the German village of Gitting [?] in the Duchy of Pfalz-Neuburg.
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
