Mattias Lucht was born in 1781 in the German village of Grabina in Prussia. He was a tailor.
He served as a soldier in the 3rd Infantry Regiment of Napoleon's Army. He fought against the Russians and was captured.
Milovidov records that as of 1814 two brothers and two sisters still living in the village of Grabina.
He was settled among the Volga German colonies. He appears on the 1832-1843 Family List of Schäfer.
Mattias Schäfer and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Schäfer in Household No. 63.
Mattias Schäfer and his family are recorded on the 1850 census of Schäfer in Household No. 113.
The death of Mattias Schäfer in 1851 is recorded on the 1857 census of Schäfer in Household No. 113.
Belousov records that Mattias Lucht came from Poland. Milovidov records that he came from the German village of Gabina in the region of Prussia.
The Schäfer Family List, however, records that he was born near Dornbie, Lenczycer Kreis, Poland.
