Johannes Maul was born about 1793 in St. Johann. He was a carpenter.
He served as a soldier with the 9th French Artillery Regiment of Napoleon's Army. He fought and was captured by the Russians.
Milovidov records that as of 1814 he had one sister still living in St. Johann.
He was settled in the Volga German colony of Mariental and was assigned to the household of Mattias Rohr.
Milovidov records that Johannes Maul came from the village of St. Johann in the German region of Pfalz. [There are a couple of villages named St. Johann in the Pfalz region; further research is needed to identify which one is home of this Maul family.]
There are no known surviving male lines of this Maul family among the Volga German colonies.
