In the 17th century, Völkersleier was located in Niederfranken (Lower-Franconia, today northwest Bavaria) in an area called Dienheim, a cluster of about 15 villages owned by the Franconian Knights and in the possession of the Counts of Thüngen. On 28 June 1814, following the Napoleonic Wars, these Thüngen territories were awarded to the Kingdom of Bavaria. Völkersleier is located north of Würzburg.
Today, Völkersleier is administratively part of the municipality of Wartmannsroth.
