Discussion & Documentation

Johann Michael Parnikel (age 39), a merchant (Kaufmann), and his wife Maria Elisabeth née Guttenberg (age 33) are recorded on the 1776 Katharinenstadt Grundbuch [Land Register] in Household No. 87 along with a note that they are beurlaubt [on leave] in Kazan.

The 1776 Katharinenstadt Land Register records that Johann Michael Parnikel came from the German village of Rothenburg ob der Taube and that his wife came from the village of Erlangen in the Bayreuth region.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Parnikel family among the Volga German colonies.
