There have been thermal baths in the German village of Vilbel for centuries. It was officially designated a "spa town" in 1948 and the the name of "Bad" (which means "spa / bath" in German) was added at that time. There are no longer any active spa facilities in Vilbel, but the bottling of mineral water continues there.
