A church must have already existed in the village of Heimkirchen in the Middle Ages. It was dedicated to St. George. When Franz von Sickingen introduced the Reformation in Landstuhl, Heimkirchen was also brought into the new faith. In 1757, the church was torn down and a new church was built. This church was destroyed by fire on 5 October 1874 following a lightning strike. The current church was built in 1877-78. The church, a neo-Gothic building made of yellowish sandstone with a pointed tower, was dedicated on 20 October 1878.
In 1836, Franz Heinrich and Carl Stumm built a new organ for the Protestant Church in Heimkirchen. It was a one-manual instrument with twelve registers. It was destroyed in the fire on 5 October 1874. After the construction of a new church, Wilhelm Rühlmann built a two-manual organ with thirteen registers in 1878. It was renovated in 1954 when several eight-foot registers were replaced by higher ranks. Hugo Mayer revised it again in 1980.
