Oberstein, Kr. Birkenfeld, Rheinland-Pfalz

The village of Oberstein belonged to the Barons of Daun-Oberstein (who later became the Counts of Falkenstein) until 1670. From 1794 to 1818, the area in which Oberstein is located was part of the arrondissement of Birkenfeld in the French Department of Sarre. It then became part of the Kingdom of Prussia.

In 1933, the Nazis forciby united Oberstein with neighboring Idar to form the village of Idar-Oberstein.
