Discussion & Documentation:

There are two Adam families affiliated with the colony of Schönchen. Their relationship to each other, if any, requires additional research.

(1) Konrad Adam, son of Adolph Adam & Anna Magdalena Eiff, was born about 1731 in Momberg. He married 29 April 1763 in Momberg to Anna Katharina Mösch, daughter of Johann Heinrich Mösch & Anna Katharina Gross. She had been born in Mombreg on 11 March 1730.

The birth of one daughter has been located in the parish register of Momberg: Elisabeth, born 4 June 1764. There was also an illegitimate daughter Margaretha Elisabeth who had been born 15 June 1758 in Momberg. The parish register records that she was legitimized when her parents married and at that time she took the Adam surname.

Konrad Adam, a farmer, his wife Katharina, and children (Mathissa [sic], age 6; Anna, age 2) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Gabriel Wild.

He settled in the Volga German colony of Schönchen on 17 August 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 13 along with his new wife and her children.

Widower Konrad Adam, his daughter, and son-in-law (Nikolaus Rupp) are recorded on the 1798 census of Schönchen in Household No. Sn18.

The 1767 census records that Konrad Adam came from the German village of Momberg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Adam family among the Volga German colonies.

(2) The Movement Tables of the 1767 census of Kind records that Johann Adam and his wife Anna relocated to the colony of Schönchen in 1783.

The widow of Johann Adam from Dehler is recorded on the 1798 census of Sewald in Household No. Sd31 along with their daughter Susanna (age 13).

There are no known surviving male lines of this Adam family among the Volga German colonies.
