Discussion & Documentation

Johann Peter Albert from Schweinheim bei Aschaffenburg married Anna Margaretha [surname unknown]. She died 7 March 1743 in Gronau. He remarried on 13 August 1743 in Gronau to Anna Margaretha Heß, daughter of Johann Georg Heß & Margaretha Werner. She had been born 14 October 1711 in Gronau.

The baptisms of the following children born to Johann Peter Albert & Anna Margaretha Heß are recorded in the parish register of Gronau: (1) Johann Georg, born 17 May 1744; and (2) Johannes, born 29 January 1746.

Johannes Albert (born 1746) married in Gronau on 27 May 1766 to Elisabetha Catharina Burger, daughter of Johann Adam Burger & Anna Catharina Falkenstein and the widow of both Johann Philipp Meid and Johann Henrich Bickelhaupt [sic]. Elisabetha Catharina Burger had been born 14 November 1727 in Mittershausen. [See Pickelhaupt Family.]

Johann Albert, a farmer, his wife Elisabeth, and [step-]children (Johann [Pickelhaupt], age 10; Sophia [Pickelhaupt], age 7) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Peter [sic] Albert, his wife Elisabeth, and [step-]children (Diedrich [Pickelhaupt], age 12; Margaretha [Pickelhaupt], age 10) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

The newlywed couple along with two Bickelhaub stepchildren are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Warenburg in Household No. 112. The two Bickelhaub children are recorded there in error under the surname Burger - their mother's maiden name. Many of those on this appendix resettled to the colony of Kind, where the widow Albert is recorded on the 1798 Census in Household Kd18, and the two Bickelhaup stepchildren in Households Kd09 & Kd17.

In 1798, there is a Johannes Albert and his family recorded as moving from Hockerberg to Meinhard. It is presumed that this Albert family is part of the one that settled originally in the colony of Kind.

Johann Andreas Albert from Hockerberg and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Meinhard in Household No. Mn33.

The 1767 census records that Johannes Albert came from the German village of Kron [Gronau] in the Erbach region.
