Gottfried Gilrat Altmann, a single student, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 May 1766 aboard the galliot Anna Katharina under the command of Skipper Daniel Geier.

He settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 5 March 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 209.

The 1767 census records that Gottfried Gilrat Altmann came from the German village of Coswig in the region of Anhalt-Zerbst.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Altmann family among the Volga German colonies.
