Joseph Altvater and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Hölzel in Household No. 54 along with a note that he had been a prisioner of war and received permission to relocate to Hölzel [from where?] in 1825.
His death is recorded on the Hölzel parish register on 28 June 1848 and notes that his parents are Bernhard Altvater & Katharina Jakowska. He had been married 3 times: (1) to Anna Roppelt who died 19 March 1831; (2) on 25 June 1832 to Katharina Graf who died 3 May 1840; and (3) on 16 July 1844 to Katharina Rolhäuser née Redel.
