Discussion & Documentation

Johann Eschbach [sic], a farmer, his wife Elisabeth, and daughters (Anna, age 17½; Margaretha, age 5¼; Katharina, age ¾) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a barque named Fortitudo (Fortitude) under the command of Skipper John Scott.

Eberhard Ansbach, a craftsman (Handwerker), and his wife, Katharina, settled in the Volga German colony of Norka on 2 September 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 207.

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that this Ansbach family came from the German region of Isenburg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Ansbach family among the Volga German colonies.
