Appel (Straub)*

Hans Michael Appel, a pipe turner (Pfeifenrohrdreher) from Unterreichenbach near Birstein, married on 21 May 1737 in Offenbach to Anna Gertraud Hunckel. They births of three children are recorded in the parish register of Offenbach: (1) Anna Elisabetha, born 10 January 1738, died 6 December 1738; (2) Johann Melchior, born 13 December 1740, died 25 November 1815 [in Dreieichenhain]; and (3) Anna Elisabetha, born 6 April 1743.

Anna Gertraud Appel née Hunckel died 27 March 1749 in Offenbach. Michael Appel remarried on 18 March 1751 in Offenbach to Ursula Philippi, daughter of Johannes Philippi (1685 - 4 February 1756) & Maria Elisabeth Jost (22 November 1689 - 25 February 1736). Ursula Philippi had been born 8 October 1722 in Dreieichenhain. The births of 2 sons are recorded in Offenbach: (1) Lorentz, born 1 March 1752; and (2) Johann Daniel, born 1 September 1753.

Ursula Appel née Philippi died in Dreieichenhain on 18 April 1761.

Michael Appel, a turner (Dreher) from Haÿn in the area of Offenbach, & Margaretha Wolff, daughter of the deceased Johann Henrich Wolff from Neü-Ysenburg, were married on 23 April 1766 in the Lutheran Church of Büdingen. Margaretha Wolff had been born on 17 January 1741 in Neu-Isenburg.

Michael Appel, a farmer, his [3rd wife] wife Anna Margaretha, and sons [by his 2nd wife] (Johann Lorenz, age 17; Daniel, age 15) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 29 July 1766 aboard the ship Apollo under the command of Skipper Friedrich Detloff Mörenberg.

Son Daniel Appel and his wife are recorded on the 1798 census of Straub in Household No. Sr04.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that this Michael Appel came from the German region of Isenburg. Karl Stumpf records that Michael Appel came from the German village of Dreieichenhain in the region of Offenbach.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Daniel Appel among the Volga German colonies.
