Discussion & Documentation

Valentin Bachert, a beer brewer (Bierbrauer), his wife Maria, and son Friedrich (age 10) are recorded on the 1767 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 48. They had settled there on 27 August 1766.

Valentin Bachert's sons (Friedrich, age 17; Andreas, age 7) are recorded on the 1776 Katharinenstadt Grundbuch [Land Register] in Household No. 178 along with a note that they are living with Mattias Trippel.

The 1767 census records that Valentin Bachert came from the German village of Suhl (Henneburg) in the Kurpfalz region. The 1776 Katharinenstadt Land Register records that he came from the same place.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
