Discussion & Documentation

Christian Becker, a farmer, his wife Maria, and daughters (Anna, age 21; Susanna, age 16) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 18 June 1766 aboard the ship Mann und Frau under the command of Skipper Daniel Berg.

Christian Bäcker, a farmer, his wife Anna Katharina, and daughter Maria Susanna (age 14) settled in the Volga German colony of Preuss on 15 July 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 424.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Christian Becker came from the German region of Trier. The 1767 census records that Christian Bäcker was from the German village of Wirges in Kurtrier.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Bäcker family among the Volga German colonies.
