August Bäcker, a weaver (Weber), and his wife Anna Margaretha arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the Die Neue Freiheit von Bremen under the command of Skipper Steingrawer.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Preuss on 15 July 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 103.
The 1767 census records that August Bäcker came from the French town of Cambrai.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Bäcker family among the Volga German colonies.
