Bartel (Brabander)
Peter Bartel, a farmer, and his wife Anna arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 14 September 1766 aboard the galliot Der Jan under the command of Skipper Markus Dragun.
Peter Barbel [sic] and his wife Anna are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
He settled in the Volga German colony of Brabander on 19 August 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 53 along with his new wife Elisabeth, and her son Nikolaus (surname not recorded).
Also living with them is Margaretha Röthling (age 14) whose parents died before leaving Germany. The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Bartel and the Röthling families.
The 1767 census records that Peter Bartel came from the village of Befort in Luxembourg.
