Bartel (Paulskaya)
Leonhard Bartel, a tailor (Schneider), arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 10 August 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Nikolaus Peter Pink.
Leonhardt Bartel is recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
He settled in the Volga German colony of Paulskaya on 23 July 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 89.
At some point, Leonhard moved to Kind. In 1777, Johann Bartel moved from Kind to Schaffhausen.
The death of Leonhard Bartel in 1817 is recorded on the 1834 census of Schaffhausen in Household No. 50.
The death of Heinrich Jakob Bartel [recorded as Barder] in 1854 is recorded on the 1857 census of Rosendamm in Household No. 8. There are no known surviving male lines of this family in Rosendamm.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Leonhard Bartel came from the German region of Ansbach while the 1767 census records that Johann Leonhard Bartel came from the German village of Dengkofen.
