Nikolaus Barth, a farmer, and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.
Nicolaus Bart [sic], his wife Barbara, and children (Albertus, age 10½; Maria Elisabeth, age 10½; Dorothea Elisabeth, age 8) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Kaneau on 3 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 15.
In 1785, Nikolaus Barth and his family moved to Paulskaya.
Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Nikolaus Barth came from the German region of Nassau.
