Discussion & Documentation

Ludwig Bataille, a mechanic?, and his wife Anna arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard the snow-brig named Maria Sophia under the command of Skipper Johann Bauert.

Itd & Rauschenbach record that this family is recorded on the 1767 census of Leitsinger in Household No. 30. This is one of the Households (No. 30-36) missing from Igor Pleve's publication of the 1767 census of Leitsinger.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Ludwig Bataille came from the German region of Hamburg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Bataille family among the Volga German colonies.
