Baum (Yagodnaya Polyana)
Reinhard Baum, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Elisabeth, age 16; Hieronymos, age 13; Anna, age 3) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 14 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Reders.
Johann Reinhard Baum, his wife Anna Elisabeth, and children (Elis. Dorothea, age 18; Hieronimus, age 14; Anna Clara, age 2) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that mother Anna Elisabeth and daughter Anna Clara died in route.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Yagodnaya Polyana and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 1 with Reinhard Baum identified as the Vorsteher (mayor) of the colony. During certain times of its history, the colony has been called by its German name of Baum in honor of its first mayor.
Johannes Baum from Yagodnaya Polyana and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Neu-Yagodnaya-Polyana.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Reinhard Baum came from the German region of Laubach. The 1767 census records that Johann Reinhard Baum came from the German village of Womtog in the Laubach region.
