Nikolaus Baumann, a farmer, his wife Anna Margaretha, and children (Anna Maria, age 19; Heinrich, age 15; Elisabeth, age 5; Johann, age 1) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 September 1766 aboard the snow-brig Die Frau Dietrika under the command of Skipper Joachim Friedrich Luhn.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Köhler on 10 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 16.
In 1788, Paul Baumann moved from Köhler to Göbel. He is recorded on the 1798 census of Göbel (as Baumer) in Household No. Gb61 and his son Kaspar (as Baumann) on the 1834 census of Göbel in Household No. 92.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Nikolaus Baumann came from the German region of Schönbronn. The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Aschaffenburg.
