Discussion & Documentation

[Johann] Nikolaus Bauriedel, his wife Maria [Katharina Wilk], and children (Anna, age 11; Johanna, age 4) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard an English frigate under the command of Skipper Adam Beerfeier.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 23 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 118.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Nikolaus Bauriedel was a farmer while the 1767 census records that he was a tailor (Schneider).

The 1767 census records that Johann Nikolaus Bauriedel came from the German region of Frankfurt am Main and that Maria Katharina Wilk came from the German region of Hamburg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
