Discussion & Documentation:

Johann Wilhelm Bingel [sic], son of Anton & Anna Maria Bingel, was baptized 27 September 1739 in Wolf. He married Anna Margaretha Heinrich.

The baptism of a daughter (Anna Catharina) born to Johann Wilhelm Bingel & Anna Margaretha Heinrich, is recorded in the parish register of Wolf on 11 March 1764.

Wilhelm Bengel, a farmer, and his wife Anna arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Balzer on 18 June 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 60 along with their daughter Maria Katharina (age 1).

The Wilhelm Bengel family is recorded on the 1798 census of Balzer in Household No. Bz091 where the surname is erroneously recorded as Dingel.

Wilhelm's son Konrad and family moved to the colony of Staub before 1803.

Johann Karl [sic] Bengel from Balzer and his sons (Johannes & Johann Heinrich) are recorded on the 1811 census of Straub in Household No. 57 along with a note that both Johann Karl [sic] and son Johannes had died there in 1805.

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Wilhelm Bengel came from the German region of Isenburg.
