Discussion & Documentation

Johannes Berger, a cobbler (Schuhmacher), his wife Anna Christina, and daughters (Anna Katharina, age 8; Maria Katharina, age 6) are recorded on the 1767 census of Kukkus in Household No. 40 along with orphan Kaspar Grünewald (age 20). The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Berger and Grünewald families. They had settled in Kukkus on 26 June 1767.

The 1767 census records that Johannes Berger came from the German village of Dierdorf in the district of Nassau.
