Johann Berger, a farmer, his wife, and daughters (Anna, age 7½; Maria, age 5½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 22 July 1766 aboard a ship named Der Ringende Jacob (The Wrestling Jacob) under the command of Skipper Johann Heitmann.
Johannes Berger, a cobbler (Schuhmacher), his wife Anna Christina, and daughters (Anna Katharina, age 8; Maria Katharina, age 6) are recorded on the 1767 census of Kukkus in Household No. 40 along with orphan Kaspar Grünewald (age 20). The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Berger and Grünewald families. They had settled in Kukkus on 26 June 1767.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Berger came from the German region of Nassau. The 1767 census records that Johannes Berger came from the German village of Dierdorf in the district of Nassau.
