Discussion & Documentation
Ignaz Bergstein, a soldier, and his wife Johanna Charlotte settled in the Volga German colony of Schäfer on 1 August 1766 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 41.
Johanna Charlotte was the widow of Johann Müller who died in route to the Volga German colonies.
The 1767 census records that Ignaz Bergstein came from the Swedish city of Stockholm.
There do not appear to be any surviving male descendants of the Bergstein family among the Volga German colonies.
