Hermes Berlas [sic], a physician (Arzt), arrived from Danzig at the port of Oranienbaum on 29 April 1766 aboard a two-masted merchant ship named Der Kleine Andreas (The Little Andrew) under the command of Skipper Jacob Jensen.
Franziskus Berlatz, a physician (Arzt), and his wife Anna settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 5 March 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 113.
Franz Berlatz, his wife Maria Margaretha née Vlont, and son Luis François (age 8) are recorded on the 1776 Katharinenstadt Grundbuch [Land Register] in Household No. 171.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Hermes Berlas [sic] came from the German region of Dettlingen. The 1767 census records that Franziskus Berlatz came from the village of Liege. The 1776 Katharinenstadt Land Register records that Franz Berlatz came from the village of Liege and that his wife came from the German village of Kassel in the region of Hessen. A note also records that they have been beurlaubt [on leave] in Penza since 1772.
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
