Discussion & Documentation

Balthasar Bernhardt, a farmer, and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 31 May 1766 aboard the pink Slon under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Panov.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Leichtling on 14 June 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 15.

The 1767 census records that Balthasar Bernhardt came from the German village of Aschaffenburg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Bernhardt family among the Volga German colonies.
