Two Bertram families arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a pinque named Slon (Elephant) under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Panov. Their relationship to each other, if any, needs further research.
(1) Johann Bertram, a cobbler (Schuhmacher), his wife Margaretha Elisabeth, daughter Klara Elisabeth (age 5), and brother-in-law Johann Georg [surname not recorded] (age 17½) arrived in Oranienbaum.
Johann Bertram, a cobbler (Schuhmacher), his wife Elisabeth, and brother Johann Georg (age 16) are recorded on the 1767 census of Kraft in Household No. 33. They had arrived in Kraft on 18 August 1767.
[It has not been determined whether Johann Georg is a brother or brother-in-law.]
Johann Bertram and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Kraft in Households No. Kf02, Kf39, & Kf53.
Konrad Bertram and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Dreispitz in Household No. 76.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Bertram came from the German region of Isenburg. The 1767 census records that Johann Bertram came from the German village of Gießen in the region of Isenburg.
(2) Melchior Bertram, a single cobbler (Schuhmacher), arrived in Oranienbaum.
It is not known what happened to him after arrival in Russia.
