Philipp Bertsch, a craftsman (Handwerker), his wife Anna Elisabeth, and children (Nikolaus, age 18; Michael, age 13; Maria, age 10; Maria [again], age 4) are recorded on the 1767 census of Mariental in Household No. 21. They had arrived in Mariental on 16 June 1766.
The 1767 census records that Philipp Bertsch came from Luxembourg.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Bertsch family among the Volga German colonies.
