Discussion & Documentation

Johann Beuss, a gardener (Gärtner), his wife Anna Hell, children (Antonia, age 14; Johanna, age 3), and stepdaughter Maria [surname not recorded] (age 2) are recorded on the 1767 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 43. They had settled there on 27 August 1766.

The 1767 census records that Johann Buess came from the Dutch town of Amsterdam in Holland and that Anna Hell came from the German region of Köln.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
