Discussion & Documentation

Konrad Bischof, son of Johann Wilhelm Bischof & Anna Catharina Machlaid, was born 15 May 1721 in Zwingenberg and baptized there on 18 May 1721.

Konrad Bischof married in Zwingenberg on 7 April 1745 to Elisabetha Catharina Demler, daughter of Johann Wendel Demler & Anna Catharina Hechler of Ober-Beerbach. She had been born 24 March 1718 in Ober-Beerbach.

Konrad Bischoff, a farmer, his wife Anna [sic], and son Philipp (age 12) arrived from Lübeck at the port in Oraninenbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard the Love & Unity under the command of Thomas Fairfax. The Zwingenberg Mannschaftsregister does not include this 12-year-old son.

Conrad Bischoff and his wife Elisabetha are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Konrad Bischoff, a farmer, and his wife Anna [sic] are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Paulskaya in Household No. 5 along with orphan Heinrich Weiner [Werner] (age 17). The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Bischoff and Werner families. [See Werner Family.]

Descendants of this Bischoff family do not appear on the 1798 census in any colony.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
