Bernhardt Bontang, his wife Catharina, and sons (Johannes, age 15; Nicolaus, age 5; Michael, age 4, died en route) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Brabander on 19 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 40.

Nikolaus Bondang and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Brabander in Household No. Bn10.

The 1767 census records that Bernhard Bontemps came from the German village of Nancy in the region of Lothringen.
