Discussion & Documentation

Nikolaus Borger arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 26 August 1766 aboard a snow-brig named Die Jäger (The Hunter) under the command of Skipper Gabriel Will.

Nikolaus Berge [sic], a farmer, and his wife Eva are recorded on the 1767 census of Philippsfeld in Household No. 8. They had settled there on 3 August 1767.

In 1769, Nikolaus Borger and his family moved from Philippsfeld to Zürich.

The 1767 census records that Nikolaus Berge [sic] came from the German village of Küchen bei Waldkappel.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Borger family among the Volga German colonies.
