Discussion & Documentation

Nicolas Bougy, a plowman (Laboureur), age 28, is recorded on a list of French colonists in September 1764.

Nikolaus Bougie, a craftsman (Handwerker), his wife Elisabeth Schmidt settled in the Volga German colony of Franzosen on 28 July 1765. They and their daughters (Maria Franziska, age 1½; Maria, age ½) are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 21.

The 1767 census records that Nikolaus Bougie came from the French village of Vilercotrie [Villers-Cotterêts?].

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
