Discussion & Documentation

Konrad Bockshorn, a joiner, his wife Elisabeth, and children (Andreas, age 16½; Gottfried, age 14; Michael, age 11; Lorenz, age 8; Georg, age 4) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Conrad Bockshorn, his wife Elisabet, and sons (Andreas, age 16; Gottfried, age 14; Joh. Michael, age 11; Joh. Lorentz, age 8; Georg Michael, age 4) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Evidently both parents died after arrival in Saratov. The surviving children are recorded on the 1767 census of Paulskaya in the following households:

Andreas (age 15) & Michael (age 11) are recorded in Household No. 12 along with the Johann Ernst Wolter family.

Friedrich [sic] (age 13) & Johann Daniel [sic] (age 5) are recorded in Household No. 26 along with the Christoph Balzer family.

Friedrich Boxhorn and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Hockerberg in Household No. Hb01.

Konrad [sic] (age 8) is recorded in Household No. 58 along with the Karl Frank family.

Lorenz Boxhorn and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Paulskaya in Household No. Pl01.

The death of Lorenz Boxhorn in 1820 is recorded on the 1834 census of Paulskaya in Household No. 73.

The 1767 census does not record a relationship among the Boxhorn, Wolter, Balthasar, and Frank families.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Konrad Beckshorn came from the German region of Würzburg.
