Johann Ludwig Braun, son of Heinrich Braun of Blasbach near Solms, married on 20 May 1762 in Lollar [Oberhessen] to Anna Elisabeth Erb, the widow of Johann Caspar Roth. She was baptized on 4 November 1732 in nearby Großen-Buseck. They had one son, Johann Heinrich, who was baptized 28 August 1763 in Lollar.

Anna Elisabetha Erb had three surviving children from her first marriage to Johann Caspar Roth (all born in Lollar): (1) Heinrich Balthasar, born 21 June 1754; (2) Johann Georg, born 6 February 1757; and (3) Georg Ludwig, born 10 October 1759.

Ludwig Braun, a farmer, his wife Anna, their son Johann (age 3), and her sons (Heinrich, age 13; Johann, age 9; Georg, age 5) [surname Roth] arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 25 July 1766 aboard the snow-brig named Maria Sophia under the command of Skipper Johann Bauert.

Ludwig Braun, his wife Anna Elisabeth, and children (Heinr. Balthasar [Roth], age 14; Joh. Georg [Roth], age 12; Georg Ludwig [Roth], age 7 Joh. Heinrich, age 4; Philipp Magnus, born en route) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Warenburg on 12 May 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 88.

The 1767 census records that Ludwig Braun came from the German village of Lollar [?] in the Darmstadt region.
